Make yourself available at the crucial times
The summer school season lasts for just a few short weeks!
Thousands of students from across the world flock to Oxford in a short space of time. As such, most job opportunities are concentrated into the seven or eight weeks between the end of June and the middle of August.
There are a selection of head office and administrative roles that span from the spring until later in the summer; but on the whole, it is a huge advantage if you are available continuously throughout July and August.
If you’re thinking of taking a holiday or some time away from Oxford, there’s space to do this later in August.
If you can keep as much of June, July and early August free as possible, you’ll be available during the busiest summer school period! And this will be very appealing to potential employers.
Be an early bird
The leading Oxford summer schools have already opened their enrolments, have set their sales targets and have started planning their summer programmes for next year. And with no signs of slowing demand from customers, the providers will be needing more staff than ever before!
If you are available from the late spring until the end of the summer, you could start to think about applying for jobs in early 2025. That said, even if you can only commit two, four or six weeks in July / August, it’s never to early to submit an application.

Make some tweaks to your CV
By no means feel that you need to create a whole new CV tailored towards your summer job of choice!
The leading Oxford summer schools understand that you may be in the middle of your studies or have recently completed your time at university. However, a few additions or tweaks here and there could really give you the advantage when applying for a summer job.
Take a look at the job specification for some of the roles for which you might like to apply. Broadly, there will be three main sectors into which this job will fit: administrative, pastoral or teaching. If you can highlight on your CV where you have demonstrable experience related to your chosen area, you’ll be on to a winner!

Know the process and timings
The months between now and the summer will disappear quickly, so we’d recommend spending a small amount of time getting organised and making a plan.
The best positions (and ‘best’ means different things to different people) often go to those who get themselves organised early in the year.
Knowing the timescales around when jobs will be released, when interviews will happen, and when offers will be made will be beneficial as you’ll know when to apply, and when to make yourself available for these things!
